It's been just over a week since I got the all clear to use my broken appendage. It's been nearly 6 weeks since I broke it during Father's Day BMX mayhem when I hit one of the support beams for the roof of the Silver Dome attempting to jump 7 school buses, filled with wild grizzly bears, dodging machine gun bullets, while lit on fire, back flipping. Sounds better than fell over on the lawn. This past week has been filled with the most relentless pain I have every experienced as my shoulder muscles tear themselves apart and heal. Hopefully, getting stronger. I am probably a weak as a baby at the moment. I've been trying to use my arm as much as possible but, the relentless, bone deep pain or the fact its simply so weak makes it tough. Pretty demoralizing. This morning I tried to lift a nearly full gallon of milk onto the top shelf of the fridge. No dice. Simply not strong enough. I am happy to say that I am nearly pain free in the area of the break. There is some dull pain at the beginning and end of the day. Although the pain may be getting cancelled out by the pain in my muscle. Sleep is still near impossible. Although, I can spend a little time each night on my good side now. Which helps a little. I have this crazy idea of getting on a bike tomorrow and going for a ride on the road. It will likely need to be a mtb since I don't think I have the strength to move around on road bars to and from the hoods and etc.
Things have been pretty slow on all other fronts but, work. Which has been balls out lately. I've been getting home after 7pm and 8pm all week. It's been incredibly hot and with all of the additional distractions of the baby, my parents being in town, traffic, etc., I haven't been able to get myself in bed early enough to get out of it to run in the mornings. WTF happened to all of my post Mohican motication?
Last weekend my dad and I started on a play structure for the kiddos. The picture does not do this thing justice. It's giant. An adult can stand up in the playhouse. I took the pic with my new phone pretty much fully zoomed in from the house. Which, I am guessing is why it looks so small. After a full day in the sun on Sunday, we pretty much only had the structure/frame up. Primarily since I am still not good for much more than reading directions and passing tools and hardware. My dad has been working tirelessly through the week on it. I check in when I roll into the driveway after work to see the progress and him sweating in the 90 degree heat. You'll need to click on "View original post" or whatever the link is on facebook to see the pic. The kids love this thing.
Not a significant but, a bit of a fun fact is that I finally joined the age of smart phones this past weekend. Well besides my work crackberry. The display on my personal phone got smashed on GLR a couple of weeks back and I had been debating what to do for a replacement. I decided to bite the bullet and bought a Droid Incredible 2. Which has turned out to live up to it's name and is not only pretty incredible but, has consumed an incredible amount of my time configuring and generally playing with it, as well as been an incredible distraction. Yeah, I bought the insurance on it since I am bound to break it.
Fingers crossed I can roll on the road this without much discomfort.
